As a political representative of ethnic Albanians in Serbia, Shaip Kamberi never had it easy.

It got a whole lot harder, however, when an election last year yielded a parliament dominated by the party of President Aleksandar Vucic and its allies, leaving Kamberi and his five Albanian and Bosniaks colleagues as the only opposition MPs in the 250-seat assembly.

BELGRADE - Making Serbia's ethnic Albanians a part of the parliamentary majority is the fundamental issue, the leader of the ethnic Albanian Party for Democratic Action Riza Halimi said Monday after consultations with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on the new government.

BELGRADE - Riza Halimi, leader of the Party for Democratic Action (PDD), said on Thursday that the party does not aspire to take part in a new government, but to be directly involved in solving everyday problems in the three municipalities in southern Serbia.

BELGRADE - The new Serbian parliament was constituted on Wednesday as the MPs took the oath of office after their mandates were approved.

The parliament speaker, the deputy speaker and the members of parliamentary bodies will be elected at a session scheduled for April 23.

BELGRADE - The new convocation of the Serbian parliament, whose constitution will start on Wednesday, will include presidents of 12 parties from seven slates who will take an oath of office.

BELGRADE - Zoran Stankovic, chairman of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, congratulated on Tuesday the Albanian national minority and the Party for Democratic Action led by Riza Halimi on their electoral success, underlining that voting in elections is the right way to improve the life of people in southern Serbia.

BELGRADE - The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)-led coalition swept 158 seats in the Serbian parliament, the SPS-led coalition secured 44 seats, the Democratic Party (DS) - 19, and the New Democratic Party -18 seats, according to the data by the national electoral commission (RIK) based on 99.08 percent of the polling stations or 99.44 percent of the electorate.

Progressives win 158 out of 250 parliament seats

BELGRADE -- The Serb Progressive Party (SNS)-led coalition has won 158 seats in the Serbian parliament, the Republic Election Commission (RIK) has announced.

BUJANOVAC - The Party for Democratic Action (PDA), which gathers ethnic Albanians from southern Serbia, has decided to take part in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for March 16.

Chair of the PDA Bujanovac municipal committee Saip Kamberi confirmed for Tanjug that PDA wishes to test its strength in the elections and hopes to win at least one MP seat.
