Tsipras: No mandate for rupture with Europe; back to negotiation table

In a nationally televised address on Sunday evening after a comfortable “no” result in the same-day referendum, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras — who called the referendum — emphasized that he is fully aware that “the mandate you give me is not one of rupture with Europe.”

Outgoing head of IKA discusses fund's 'prospects' with president

As fears grow about the sustainability of Greece?s crippled pension system, President Prokopis Pavlopoulos met on Saturday with the outgoing head of the country?s main social security fund, IKA, Rovertos Spyropoulos.

The two men discussed IKA?s ?prospects,? the president?s office said.

House debt audit commission to present first findings

Parliament?s debt audit commission is to announce its preliminary findings Wednesday and Thursday.

The inquiry is being overseen by Parliament Speaker Zoe Constantopoulou, who is due to deliver the committee?s preliminary report on Thursday.

Among those due to speak on Wednesday is Eric Toussaint, a Belgian academic who is the committee?s scientific adviser.

Pres. Pavlopoulos on World Environment Day

President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, on the occasion of the “World Environment Day”, spoke on fiscal development and environment protection. “Each and every one of us needs to assume responsibility towards the conscious protection of the environment, both for the world we live in and the world we aim to ensure for future generations”, he stated.

 

Pavlopoulos: Only fools may doubt that Macedonia is Greek

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos sent a clear message on Thursday reiterating what most people with a knowledge of elementary western civilization and history already know, namely, that Macedonia is Greece’s largest province and the same land that approximates to geographical and historical Macedonia – despite a 70-year effort to “baptize” a one-time Yugoslav province as such.
