Greek National Opera official opening at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center
The Greek National Opera (GNO) launches its new era at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens with an ambitious work – Richard Strauss’ one-act opera Elektra [Electra] – as its first production premiering on the 15th of October 2017.

Famous Duets | Aegina | August 23

Our Maria | Messinia | July 8
Forty years after Maria Callas's death, there will be a tribute concert in her honor in the courtyard of the Greek opera star's home in the Messinian village of Neochorio on Saturday, July 8. Titled "Our Maria," the evening of opera is a collaboration between the Athenaeum International Cultural Center and the Municipality of Ichalias, under whose jurisdiction the village falls.

Athens's annual Rockwave Festival at the TerraVibe park in Malakassa, north of the city, gets off to head-banging start on Friday, June 30, with headline acts Rotting Christ and Nightstalker, two locals outfit that have been shaping the Greek metal scene since the late 1980s. Number of opera and ballet viewers falls in Turkey
The number of opera and ballet viewers in Turkey decreased by 19.1 percent in the 2015-16 season, while the overall number of viewers of choirs, operas, orchestral concerts and ballets fell by 4.2 percent.
