A 5,000-year-old fragrance from the Bronze Age has been showcased at an exhibition opened on İstiklal Avenue.

Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız attended the opening of the Ancient Fragrances Exhibition at Istiklal Art Gallery.

With the cooperation of the Şanlıurfa Archeology Museum and Fragrance Culture Association, the "Mesopotamia in the Traces of Scent" exhibition has been opened as a result of a three-year study, contributed by academics and archaeologists.

Turkey's traditional cologne exports tripled in 2020 thanks to its signature hand disinfectant, a powerful tool used by many to ward off the threat of coronavirus.

Turkey exported 6.9 million tons of cologne last year, up from 2.4 million in 2019, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Istanbul Chemical and Chemical Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB).

The eau de cologne, or "kolonya," is more than just a scent in Turkish culture. Whiffs of it are everywhere: In houses, restaurants and barbers. But the industry is slowly dying out, with the perfume industry taking over. But an engineer, who runs a family business to produce the colognes, has vowed to keep the industry surviving.

Rather than imitating its valuable "real" siblings, creative faux jewelry has long taken a bold stylistic direction of its own. As Coco Chanel, a designer whose adornment vision included both real and fake pieces, once put it: "Costume jewelry is not made to give women an aura of wealth, but to make them beautiful."
