Bulgarian Police Detain 50 Migrants near Pernik

Fifty migrants have been detained near the southwestern town of Pernik, not far from Bulgaria's capital Sofia, local officials say.

District governor Irena Sokolova told Focus News Agency the migrants were found traveling in the carriage of a truck with a Pernik license plate en route to Kyustendil, another town located close to Bulgaria's borders with both Macedonia and Serbia.

Three Houses Collapsed in Pernik Following Illegal Mining Activities

Three houses fell through the illegal coal mining sites in the Pernik neighborhood Rudnichar Wednesday.

A state of emergency has been issued after the incident.

One of the buildings has been declared unsuitable for living. All residing families have been evacuated and two of them have been accommodated into municipal residences.

Bulgaria's Pernik Municipality seeks a short-term interest-free loan of BGN 5 M from the central budget in order to cope with debts.

The Pernik Municipal Council decided on Monday at an extraordinary meeting that the loan was a life-saving measure to ensure the further development of the municipality.
