Waves lash the Tourlitis lighthouse off the Aegean island of Andros Thursday amid strong winds. Built in 1887, the lighthouse, which sits atop a spindly rock spire, is known as Greece's first automated lighthouse which could function without a keeper. Following its destruction during World War Two, it was rebuilt in 1994 with funding from the Goulandris family.
Acclaimed Greek jazz musicians and composers Stavros Lantsias and Petros Klampanis will perform pieces from their respective oeuvres as well as work they have created together inspired by traditional Greek folk music at the Athenaeum Cellar. They will be joined by Thomas Constantinou on the oud and vocals, and Panos Dimitrakopoulos on the quanun. Shows start at 10 p.m. on Saturday and 9 p.m.

Usain Bolt is in Mykonos soaking up the sun and sea after a demanding World Athletics Championships in London which ended on a sour note for the fastest man on the planet following his injury in the 4×100 metre men’s final. Bolt posted a photo on his Instagram profile where a pool and some plants can be seen, but the location of the photo is unclear. He wrote: “With friends”.

A Greek chef from Crete earned a spot in the Guinness Book of world records for making the largest Greek salad ever. Petros Lambrinidis, who was honoured by the Municipality of Melvezi, Heraklio, for his feat, managed to create the gigantic 20-tonne salad (!) with the help of over 1,000 volunteers in Moscow’s Red Square.
