Representatives of the Metropolitanate laid a yule log in front of the Cetinje Monastery in the presence of a large number of citizens and believers, including Serbia's Ambassador to Montenegro Vladimir Bozovic and businessman Miodrag Daka Davidovic.
Strong police forces were set up between the two groups of the faithful.
First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic stated this, adding that it was also ridiculous to say that Montenegro was "not making anti-Serb decisions, but those its own interest."
"I suppose Djukanovic means Montenegrin interests, which is nice - because Serbia is also making decisions in its own interest," Dacic told Podgorica-based daily Dan.
Montenegro on Friday will submit an application for the historic core of Cetinje to join the UNESCO heritage list.
Once the nomination has been submitted, it will then undergo a process of scrutiny and evaluation by UNESCO and its advisory body, the International Council on Monuments and Sites.
