Run With Your Dog | Athens | October 1
The Greek Animal Welfare Society is holding its fourth annual Run With Your Dog event on Sunday, October 1, at the National Bank Woods (Alsos Ethnikis Trapezas - formerly Pikionis Park) in the northern suburb of Filothei. In addition to encouraging people to spend some quality time with their pets, the event is also aimed at raising awareness about the society's activities.

A fiery debate among Turkish social media users had been stirred after terrifying footage was revealed showing a vehicle that vanished away after killing the stray dog without looking back.

DNA shows early spread of cats in human world
Long before cats became the darlings of Facebook and YouTube, they spread through the ancient human world.
A DNA study reached back thousands of years to track that conquest and found evidence of two major dispersals from the Middle East, in which people evidently took cats with them. Genetic signatures the felines had on those journeys are still seen in most modern-day breeds.

Dog fired for being too friendly (photos)
Not everyone is cut out for a life of fighting crime. Take Gavel, a German shepherd who flunked out of a police dog academy in Australia because he “did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line,” according to the BBC.
Apparently Gavel was too friendly, and preferred cuddles to tackles.
