Bulgaria Sees Surge in Solar Power and Coal Plant Decline in 2023 Electricity Report
A remarkable shift in Bulgaria's energy landscape has been unveiled in the latest report from the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, submitted to the Bulgarian parliament. The data reveals a staggering increase of over 140% in electricity production from photovoltaic plants, accompanied by a significant decline in output from coal-fired power plants in the year 2023.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy will try to bring some sense to the soaring market of photovoltaic parks, before the new technology is burnt out by extravagant projects by controversial investors in the country.

Helleniq in solar parks deal with Mytilineos
Helleniq Energy Holdings on Monday announced it has reached a binding agreement to buy a portfolio of solar power projects, with total power of 211 megawatts, from Mytilineos Energy & Metals through its subsidiary Helleniq Renewables for an undisclosed sum.

Construction of a new solar power plant in Serbia commenced
The new power plant in Saraorci will have a capacity of 9.95 MW, the electricity is intended for the domestic market, which is enough to supply about 2,500 households.
The laying of the foundation stone was also attended by the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovi.
Mytilineos’ Aussie PPA signed
Mytilineos and SmartestEnergy Australia have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 40-megawatt Kingaroy Solar Farm in Queensland, Australia, the listed group announced.

Cyprus ditched energy from renewables
The issue of storing electricity from renewable energy sources in Cyprus has become a problem due to extensive production rejections of both large and small photovoltaic parks by the Transmission and Distribution Operators on Easter Sunday and Monday. This has resulted in economic losses as excess energy cannot be stored and is rejected.
