Gale-force winds keep ferries docked at ports on Monday
Waves batter the port of Rafina in Attica. Ferries remained tied up at the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio on Sunday and Monday due to gale-force winds reaching up to 9 Beaufort in some places. Hydrofoils that service the Argo-Saronic Gulf islands (Salamina, Aegina, Hydra, Poros and Spetses) were also prohibited from sailing.
Takis Tloupas: Stories from the basement
Rare Super 8 footage captured between 1950 and 1980 by Takis Tloupas and unearthed in the basement of his Larissa home by director Kalliopi Legaki inspired her to explore the life of the photographer who gained renown for his black-and-white images of life in the Thessalian city and countryside. The resulting film, titled "My Father's Studio," "is not a portrait," the director says.

Engine failure disrupts Aegina ferry route
Passengers on Apollon Hellas ferry faced disruption on Thursday after the ship suffered an engine failure before its departure from the port of Piraeus.
The ferry, operated by Saronic Ferries, was schedule to travel to the island of Aegina, near Athens, early this morning. It has 130 passengers, 35 cars, 13 trucks and six two-wheelers on board.

Piraeus has posted a new record in cruise passengers according to last year's figures announced on Thursday, while another record is expected during 2024.
Dozens of historically significant religious icons recovered by police
Experts have confirmed that at least 20 religious icons from a haul of more than 50 seized by the police in Athens on Wednesday are historically significant and protected by cultural heritage laws.
The icons were seized in the southern Athens suburb of Moschato from a 43-year-old man who claimed to have acquired them from a woman, aged 74, who has also been arrested.
