AFAD working to prevent looting at Grand Bazaar in event of quake
Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) is presently working on measures as to how to protect historical structures in Istanbul during an imminent earthquake, including plans to prevent a possible looting at the Grand Bazaar if such a disaster hits the metropolis.
Getir enters US market with Chicago
Istanbul-based Getir, the pioneer of ultra-fast grocery delivery business, announced on Nov. 12 that it entered the U.S. market with its services in Chicago.
It will add New York and Boston to its network by the end of the year, Getir founder Nazım Salur said.

Turkey’s Jews meet at historic Ankara synagogue after 40 years
After nearly four decades, Jews in Turkey came together at the Ankara Synagogue to "revive their memories."
Isaak Haleva, the chief rabbi of Turkey's Jews, as well as several members of the Jewish community, joined the event in the capital Ankara.
In a speech on the occasion, Haleva said the preservation of synagogues is important for his community in Turkey.
Fog blankets Istanbul, disrupts vessel traffic
Heavy fog led to a disruption of vessel traffic late on Nov. 6 in Turkey's Bosporus Strait.
The fog started to take effect on Nov. 5 evening, causing delays in air and sea traffic.
İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport has been closed to air traffic.

An academic of a Turkish university has swum for 15 hours in the 34-kilometer Catalina Channel, which stretches between Santa Catalina Island and Los Angeles in the United States.
Raha Akhavan Tabatabaei, an academic from Sabancı University, successfully reached her goal by swimming the track, known as the world's one of the most dangerous open-water swim routes.
