Kranjska Gora – Kranjska Gora has had a dismal winter tourist season, but it is alone among Slovenia’s winter sports resorts to have hosted several major international sporting events. While the proceeds have not been high, the community is banking on their promotional impact and the lessons learned in Covid-safe tourism.
Planica – The world’s top ski jumpers will converge on Slovenia’s Planica this week for the Ski Flying World Championships, which has been moved up from March due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The event will be held for the first time without spectators, under floodlights, and under strict anti-epidemic rules.
The award will be split between several architects who were responsible for various aspects of the Planica Nordic Centre, a EUR 40m EU-subsidised facility that was inaugurated late last year.
Located in the north-west of the country, the complex features a ski-flying hill, seven ski-jumping hills and outdoor and indoor cross-country skiing tracks.
