The leak stopped and was restored after about an hour

Residents in the capital of Zakynthos have been cut off from the central water supply for more than 10 days as authorities on the Ionian island look for leaks to explain how petrol was detected in the water coming out of people's taps.

Heating accidents have left substantial parts of Sofia without warmth and hot water, just three days after the capital's heating system was launched on November 5. The chilly ordeal began with radiators cooling off in districts like "Yavorov" and "Levski V." Toplofikatsia's website assures residents that the "cold shower" is expected to conclude today.

The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry has initiated efforts to reintroduce the cistern system, which was used centuries ago for the purpose of storing water, to combat the recently increasing floods across the country.

"There is no danger of stopping the hot water in Sofia in the summer due to the suspended gas supplies by Gazprom. No regime will be introduced. However, it is possible to reduce the water temperature." This was stated to bTV by the member of the Supervisory Board of "Toplofikacia" (District Heating) Sofia Valentin Terziiski.

As of today, April 26, Sofia District Heating ("Toplofikacia") will start phasing out the heating in the capital, the company announced.

All share distribution companies have been notified, and the process of shutting down the heating system is expected to be completed by April 28.
