1,500-year-old underground passage discovered in Istanbul

A 1,500-year-old underground passage has come to light during the ongoing excavation works in the remains of Saint Polyeuktos Church in Istanbul's Saraçhane neighborhood, which witnessed destruction during the Latin invasion.

The teams from Istanbul Municipality's Cultural Heritage Department on June 8 last year initiated excavation works in the area where the church lies.

Deputy governor of Hatay province kills mother, brother

A deputy governor of the southern province of Hatay has shot his mother and brother dead in what is believed to be a family feud.

Tolga Polat killed his mother İkbal Polat and brother Altuğ Polat on Aug. 11 when the family gathered to discuss an inheritance sharing issue at their home in the Seyhan district of Adana province.

Fourteen Turkish-origin German citizens were elected to Germany's Bundestag in the Sept. 24 general elections.

According to the temporary initial results, Aydan Özoğuz, Metin Hakverdi, Mahmut Özdemir, Cansel Kızıltepe, Gülistan Yüksel and Elvan Korkmaz were elected on the ranks of the Social Democrats (SPD).

One year in jail demanded for McDonalds' employee who threw boiled water on boy in Istanbul

The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has demanded up to one-and-a-half year in jail for an employee at a McDonalds' branch who threw boiling water on a seven-year-old boy in Istanbul.

Mutlu Haceroğlu threw boiled water on Polat Kara at the restaurant in Istanbul's upscale Nişantaşı district on May 9. 

Fast food restaurant employee throws boiled water on seven-year-old boy in Istanbul

An employee at the branch of a world-famous fast food restaurant in Istanbul threw boiled water on a seven-year-old boy, blaming him for disturbing customers on May 9, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The waitress, Mutlu Haceroğlu, threw boiled water on the little boy, Polat Kara, at the restaurant in Istanbul's upscale Nişantaşı district. 

Court gives aggravated life sentence to man who beheaded a Syrian child in Turkey's southeast

A court in the southeastern province of Gaziantep has handed down an aggravated life prison sentence to a man who beheaded a 14-year-old Syrian child. Cengiz Polat, 34, cut the throat of Syrian child Ferhat Ali on March 23 while the latter was working for the former in a white appliances store in the province's Şahinbey district, Doğan News Agency reported on Sept. 22.
