Operation Theseus results in 84 arrests in central Athens
A police operation dubbed Theseus and aimed at cracking down on street crime in central Athens on Thursday led to 84 arrests.
More than half (40) of those arrested failed to present valid identity cards or visas, while 24 women were taken in for prostitution.
Police also seized some 3,500 contraband items.
Gun fired by Maziotis had not been used in previous attacks
A USP 9 MM pistol fired by fugitive Nikos Maziotis at police officers prior to his dramatic arrest in central Athens on Wednesday had not been used in criminal or terrorist activity before, ballistic tests conducted by the police department showed on Thursday.

Undercover Police Officers to Patrol in Bulgaria's Seaside Resorts
Undercover police officers will keep tourists safe from thieves in the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts this summer.
The policemen will be dressed in plain clothes without badges in order to easily blend with the tourist crowds, private TV station BTV reports. The officers will patrol in pairs - one local and one detached Ministry of Interior employee.

Suspects in firebombing of police in Exarchia released
Police in the central Athenian neighborhood of Exarchia on Tuesday released four men who were taken in for questioning following a firebomb attack on a riot police detail posted in the area.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on Valtetsiou Street, when unknown assailants launched five Molotov cocktails at the officers.
No one was injured in the attack.
Dutchman in western Greece threatens motorist with gun
A 54-year-old Dutch national living in western Greece faces charges of threatening bodily harm and illegal weapons possession after allegedly pointing a gun at a motorist over a perceived transgression of the traffic code, police said Monday.
The 49-year-old motorist said the unnamed Dutchman threatened him on a rural road on the outskirts of Vonitsa and then fled in his own vehicle.
