ECB lowers emergency funding cap for Greek banks to 24.8 bln euros

The European Central Bank has lowered the ceiling on emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) Greek banks draw from the domestic central bank by 1.0 billion euros to 24.8 billion euros ($29.33 billion), the Bank of Greece said. 

The move reflected improved liquidity conditions, taking into account private sector deposit flows and banks' access to financial markets, it said.

ECB made almost €8bn from Greece's financial crisis

The European Central Bank (ECB) has profited handsomely from its holdings of Greek government debt, according to a document seen by the Financial Times.

A written response to a request from a Greek MEP showed the bank collected €7.8 billion in interest payments between 2012-2016 on Greek sovereign bonds acquired under its Securities and Markets bond-buying program (SMP).

The European Central Bank lowered the cap on emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) Greek banks draw from the domestic central bank by 5 billion euros to 33.9 billion euros, the Bank of Greece said on Thursday.

The move reflected improved liquidity conditions, taking into account private sector deposit flows, it said. The ELA ceiling is valid up to September 20.

The European Central Bank lowered the cap on emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) Greek banks draw from the domestic central bank by 1.1 billion euros to 40.5 billion euros, the Bank of Greece said on Thursday.

The move reflected improved liquidity conditions, taking into account private sector deposit flows, it said. The ELA ceiling is valid up to August 2.
