Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will receive the leader of PASOK-Movement for Change Nikos Androulakis on Tuesday at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday to present him with the third exploratory mandate to form a government, according to article 37 of the Greek Constitution.

Greece's ruling party New Democracy achieved a huge victory in Sunday's election, managing to gain a double-digit lead over its main rival, the left-wing SYRIZA, which saw its support melt away. 

With New Democracy set to comfortably win an outright majority in the second election, which will probably take place on June 25, a relentless political battle has already begun for the dominance of the center-left of the political spectrum. 

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said on Monday that he was not "giving up the fight" after his party's big defeat in Sunday's elections.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Monday he will not seek to form a coalition government following this weekend's election, paving the way for a second vote in June he hopes his conservative party will win outright.

According to Wolfango Piccoli, co-president at financial advisory firm Teneo, Sunday's election result had a "devastating" impact on the SYRIZA leftist opposition, while leaving New Democracy in a dominant position with limited scrutiny.

"It is a devastating outcome for the opposition, especially for SYRIZA," Piccoli told news website Politico.

The huge win by New Democracy in Sunday's election creates a whole different political landscape than the one most pundits were predicting.

President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will activate the procedures to give exploratory mandates to the leaders of the first three parliamentary parties in order to determine whether a government that enjoys the confidence of the Parliament can emerge.

With nearly all votes counted in Greece's general election, ruling New Democracy was on course for a resounding lead of nearly 21% early Monday morning.

Greece's ruling New Democracy party was set for a crushing victory in a parliamentary election on Sunday, early results showed, defeating the opposition Syriza but likely to fall below the threshold to form a government on its own.
