PM: If there is an Oil Embargo on Russia, there will be an Exception for Bulgaria
"If there is a decision to ban the import of oil from Russia, there will certainly be an exception for Bulgaria". This was stated by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov before the start of the extraordinary session of the European Council. Bulgaria will request a postponement until December 2024, incl.
Agriculture Minister Podgoršek resigns over hotel bill payment
Ljubljana – Agriculture Minister Jože Podgoršek resigned on Wednesday after he became the target of media scrutiny over lack of clarity regarding the payment of his weekend stay at an upscale hotel in Bohinj in January. He said he was “resigning exclusively due to the late payment of the bill”, and was accepting responsibility for this.
Parties welcoming of Ukrainian refugees
Ljubljana – All but one parliamentary party welcomed Slovenia’s offer to accept Ukrainian refugees, although there was some scepticism whether the country has the capacity or would even need to take in between 180,000 and 200,000 as suggested by Interior Minister Aleš Hojs. The opposition also raised unequal treatment of refugees depending on their origin.

Vox populi poll: Freedom Movement leads ahead of SDS
Ljubljana – The latest Vox Populi poll by Ninamedia sees the Freedom Movement party headed by Robert Golob in leads as it is preferred by 23.9% of the respondents, followed by the ruling Democrats (SDS) with 21.2%.
KUL parties present election programme points
Ljubljana – The four centre-left opposition parties associated in an informal Constitutional Arch Coalition (KUL) presented some key points of their election programmes at an event on Wednesday, advocating public education and healthcare, accessible housing and stable public finances, while also calling on people to go vote.

Ljubljana – The coalition New Slovenia (NSi) on Friday launched a campaign promoting amendments to the income tax act, which will include the collecting of signatures in support of the changes in the run-up to the official election campaign.

MPs reject occupational disease proposal
Ljubljana – The National Assembly rejected on Friday opposition-sponsored changes to the pension and disability insurance act that would create a legal basis for determining and confirming occupational diseases. The coalition argued the matter should be addressed with changes to health legislation.

Speaker Zorčič, Minister Tonin test positive for coronavirus
Ljubljana – Parliamentary Speaker Igor Zorčič has tested positive for coronavirus and is in self-isolation, the parliament said on Friday, while Defence Minister Matej Tonin, the president of the coalition New Slovenia (NSi), also said on Twitter he has tested positive.
Zorčič tested positive on Thursday and was thus among the 9,858 infections confirmed in Slovenia that day.
Coalition, opposition clash over nominations for RTV Slovenija
Ljubljana – The Credentials and Privileges Commission proposed that the National Assembly appoint to the programme council and supervisory board of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija five candidates each who had been proposed by the coalition, the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) and the opposition National Party (SNS) much to the chagrin of the centre-left opposition.
