Thousands of protesters regrouped after police fired tear gas at them on Sept. 29 and marched along a thoroughfare in downtown Hong Kong in a second straight day of defiance, sparking fears of more violence ahead of China's National Day.

Climate protesters marched through Paris for a second day on Sept. 21 in a rally that saw sporadic clashes between masked demonstrators and police who also broke up "yellow vest" groups trying to stage unauthorised gatherings in the capital.

Several labor unions have joined forces to organize a rally in downtown Athens on Tuesday evening in protest at government policies they say undermine workers' rights.

The rally has been scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Propylaia on Panepistimou Street and then head of Parliament. It is expected to affect traffic and public transportation in the city center.

Hong Kong is gearing up for more protests this week after hundreds of thousands of anti-government demonstrators braved heavy rain to rally peacefully on Aug. 18, marking a change to what have often been violent clashes.

The mother of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos who was shot dead in 2008 by special police guard Epaminondas Korkoneas has blasted the latter's release from prison after serving just 13 years of his life sentence and called for protests against the ruling.

Epaminondas Korkoneas, a police special guard convicted for the deadly shooting in December 2008 of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia, was on Tuesday released from the high-security prison in Domokos, near Lamia in central Greece.

An appeals court in Lamia, central Greece, on Monday upheld the conviction of police special guard Epaminondas Korkoneas for the deadly shooting in December 2008 of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia but reduced the term from life to 13 years.

A mass demonstration in Hong Kong's suburb, Yen Long, gathered 288,000 people, according to organizers of the protest quoted by the TASS.

Earlier, police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators. Some radical actors were throwing bricks and other items into the police. According to reports, several people have been injured in the clashes. For detainees there is still no mention.
