Albania Opposition Claims New Justice Inspector is ‘PM’s Servant’

Metani, 46, has had a career in state administration, including stints working for the cabinet of Socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama.

He has also previously served as adviser to two presidents and is the brother of Socialist MP Eglantina Gjermeni.

Albania PM Requests Extension of Post-Quake Emergency Powers

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday asked parliament for a three-month extension of emergency powers that were introduced after the deadly earthquake in Albania on November 26.

Rama claimed the extraordinary powers are needed while there are still post-earthquake tremors in the Tirana and Durres regions.

The Albanian president accused billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros of being responsible for what he called "a conspiracy aimed at totally capturing the state".

The attack occurred on Thursday evening when about 200 people assembled at the election centre of the Municipality of Vau i Dejws, an opposition Democratic Party stronghold.
