HDP wants to see greater Russian role on Kurdish issue

Moscow needs to become more involved in the Kurdish issue, Selahattin Demirtaş, the co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has said during a five-day visit to the Russian capital.

Russia does not generally contact Kurds directly, but prefers doing this via Turkey, Demirtaş told dailies Sputnik and Kommersant, Cihan news agency reported.

Justice minister implies misconduct by telecommunications authority

There are very grave claims suggesting that the Telecommunications Directorate (TİB) has handed over information to inappropriate individuals or groups, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has said.

The government has indicated that a reconstruction or a purge at the TİB was imminent.

Ten years on

Dec. 16, 2014 was an important anniversary in Turkey's long and arduous road to the EU. Ten years ago on that day, the EU Council agreed that Turkey sufficiently fulfilled the Copenhagen political criteria and was ready to start accession negotiations with the EU for full membership.

Is Erdoğan really concerned about demography?

The accusation of treason is so commonly bandied about in Turkey that it has become banal. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan uses this accusation at every opportunity. He is now claiming that birth control is a form of treason which threatens extinction for a whole generation. It is not clear, however, if his real concern is demographical or ideological.
