The House voted overwhelmingly on Dec. 28 to increase COVID-19 relief checks to $2,000, meeting President Donald Trump's demand for bigger payments and sending the bill to the GOP-controlled Senate, where the outcome is highly uncertain.

US President Donald Trump has pardoned his former campaign manager Paul Manafort, ex-adviser Roger Stone and the father of Mr Trump's son-in-law.
Mr Manafort was convicted in 2018 in an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US election.
Mr Trump had previously commuted the prison sentence of Mr Stone, who was convicted of lying to Congress.

Trump: No change at bases named for Confederate officers
President Donald Trump on June 10 said his administration will "not even consider'' changing the name of any of the 10 Army bases that are named for Confederate Army officers. Two days earlier, Defense Secretary Mark Esper indicated that he was open to a broad discussion of such changes.

US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to deploy the military if states failed to quickly quell the violent protests that have gripped the nation for six days, hours after the brother of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody, called for peace.

He said if cities and states failed to control the protests and "defend their residents" he would deploy the army and "quickly solve the problem for them", BBC reports.
