Over 71,000 Romanians in the Diaspora have cast their vote on Saturday by 18:00 (Romania Time). On the first day of voting abroad, voting has already closed in sections of New Zealand, Australia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, the Republic of Singapore, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Thailand, Vietnam and Kazakhstan.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu on Friday sent a message to the Romanians in the diaspora reminding them that they have two days at their disposal to vote in the parliamentary elections so that to avoid crowding.

More than 18 million Romanian voters are expected to go to the polls on Sunday at over 18,000 polling stations to open in the country to elect their representatives to the new Parliament. Senators and MPs are elected by ballot, according to the principle of proportional representation. Voting in the country takes place on a single day - Sunday, from 07:00hrs to 21:00hrs.

The voting abroad in the presidential election runoff ended with the closing of the last polling stations on the West Coast of the United States of America and Canada, at 21:00hrs, local (7:00hrs Romania's time).

Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said on Monday that the government will request the Central Electoral Bureau to secure the number of members in the electoral bureaus of the polling stations in case the representatives of the political parties that no longer have candidates in the presidential runoff do not show up at the polling station.

Over 273,000 Romanians exercised their right to vote at polling stations abroad in the first round of the presidential elections until Sunday, at 07:00, Romania's time, when the second day of voting concluded in America as well, according to the data released on the Central Electoral Bureau platform.

The polling stations for the presidential election opened on Sunday to more than 18 million Romanian voters. Nationwide, there are 18,748 polling stations. According to the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), the total number of voters registered with the permanent electoral lists is 18,217,156 for this election.

Over 15,000 prisoners have announced their intention to vote in Sunday's presidential election, according to the National Penitentiary Administration (ANP). ANP says that the centralisation of the figures nationwide as of Thursday indicates that 15,043 enfranchised prisoners announced their intention to participate in the poll on Sunday, out of a total of 17,660.

Approximately 20,000 policemen, gendarmes, border policemen, firemen and workers with other operating structures will ensure the guard and protection of the 18,748 polling stations nationwide on Sunday.

Almost 268,000 Romanians abroad voted at the ballot boxes in the first round of the presidential elections until Saturday at 22:00, Romania's time, according to the data released on the Central Electoral Bureau platform.
