Every 10th Resident of France is an Immigrant

A tenth of people who lived in France in 2021 were born abroad, the national statistics agency INSEE said in its first survey on immigration in a decade, AFP reported.

Almost seven million people, or 10.3 percent of all people in France this year, are immigrants, meaning "born as a foreigner in a foreign country," it said.

The world population reached 8 billion already at the end of last year. The UN predicts that between 2050 and 2060 there will be 10 billion people on the planet. After that, experts predict a decline or stagnation of the population. The fastest-growing population is in the poorest countries. In Bulgaria, as everywhere in Europe, the trend is downward.

Bill could pose problems for second-generation migrants

A draft bill of the Migration Ministry is blocking the way for the smooth integration of unaccompanied refugee minors and second-generation immigrants who were born or went to school in Greece into local society.

According to the provision concerning the acquisition of a legal 10-year residence permit for such youngsters, most are excluded from the possibility of legal residence.

Not Many Ukrainian Refugees have Stayed in Bulgaria since the Start of the Invasion

Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Bulgaria has received 782,043 refugees at its borders and has granted temporary protection as per the Temporary Protection Directive of EU, to approximately 136,818 Ukrainian refugees, 87 percent of whom are women and children. 54,579 Ukrainian refugees remain within the country as of 5 October.
