Record number of storks in Slovenia this year, situation in Prekmurje worrying

A total of 267 pairs of white stork nested in Slovenia this year, which is the highest number since 1999, when the Bird Watching Association started keeping record. The number of storks has been rising in all Slovenia’s regions bar the Prekmurje region in the north-east, which has traditionally been home to stork.

Murexin of Puconci reports bumper profit and sales for 2021

Puconci – Murexin, the Puconci manufacturer of specialist building materials and glues, previously known as Kema, posted a record-breaking profit of EUR 1.9 million on bumper sales last year. It will reinvest most of the profit. Sales were up to EUR 19 million, an increase of EUR 1 million from 2020 and almost EUR 3 million from 2019.

Janša says every government should support Prekmurje

Ljubljana – It is remarkable that Prekmurje has preserved the Slovenian language and culture despite being cut off from Slovenian territory for a long time in the past, PM Janez Janša said in his message on Prekmurje Reunification Day, while Speaker Igor Zorčič said that on this day, Slovenians should celebrate being together.

Prekmurje Reunification Day celebrated

Ljubljana/Murska Sobota – Slovenia celebrates Prekmurje Reunification Day on Tuesday, a national holiday marking the day when the country’s eastern-most region Prekmurje was united with the rest of the nation after more than a millennium in 1919. Presidential Palace will open to the public and the president address the visitors after the main ceremony was held last evening.

Feri Lainšček, author whose characters have lives of their own

Ljubljana – Feri Lainšček, a writer, poet, playwright and screenwriter from north-eastern Slovenia, who will receive the Prešeren Prize for lifetime-achievement, sees his work not as a job but as a way of life. He believes literary heroes are spiritual beings with lives of their own.
