Parents of children enrolled in compulsory pre-school education will soon have the flexibility to request up to 15 days of absence from kindergarten for family reasons within a school year. This adjustment comes as part of a draft amendment to the Ordinance on preschool education, recently published for public discussion on the Ministry of Education and Culture's website.

The mayor of the "Izgrev" district in Sofia, Dr. Delyan Georgiev, announced the completion of the new nursery located within the residential complex of "Iztok". Dr. Georgiev revealed in a Facebook post that the land for the nursery was procured by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking a collaborative effort to address the community's childcare needs.

Amid well-publicized instances of severe bullying at schools, the government wants not only to toughen sanctions against offending students but also to commit resources to diagnosing neurodevelopmental disorders at the earliest possible age, before even preschool.

A great effort has indeed been made so that no child of preschool age is left out a place at a nursery. 

However, it seems that now the state cannot respond in time to the commitments it has undertaken in order to ensure the uninterrupted provision of this service by private preschools too. 

Preschool education will be placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, aiming to consolidate and harmonize educational policies for children up to the age of 6, while also expediting the identification of physical, intellectual, psychological and specific needs, and disorders in children.

Education Minister Mahmut Özer has attended the inauguration ceremony of 1,500 village life centers, stating that the ministry has prioritized their projects about improving education in the country's villages.

The number of students in Turkey is more than the populations of 150 countries around the world, the country's education minister said on May 24.

Speaking during the World Education Forum in London, Education Minister Mahmut Özer said that around 19 million students are receiving education in preschools, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools.

Parents protested the lack of enough places in nurseries and kindergartens in Sofia.

They gathered under the windows of the Sofia Municipality and demanded that Mayor Yordanka Fandakova be held accountable. The traffic on Moskovska Street in front of the building was also blocked for a short time.

Nearly two-thirds or around 42,000 students from 5th to 12th grade are attending in person, according to the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev.

He pointed out that he would demand the strictest punishment for the perpetrators of abuse and for the preschool institution.
