Turkish FM warns against civil war in Afghanistan

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu warned against a possible civil war in Afghanistan and expressed Turkey's will to contribute to peace and stability in the country.

Taliban remove images of women from walls in Kabul

The Taliban are covering the images of women depicted on the walls of Afghanistan's capital Kabul with paint and writing pro-Taliban slogans over them.

The group, which captured large swathes of the country within days in a sweeping military offensive, is now dictating its rules even though it has not yet made those rules official.

US working closely with Turkey, Qatar on Kabul airport: Blinken

The U.S. is "working closely" with its allies in Turkey and Qatar on quickly reopening Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sept. 3.

"We're working closely with our partners Qatar and Turkey to help get the airport in Kabul up and running as quickly as possible," he told reporters at the State Department.

Afghans were still awaiting the formation of a new government on Friday, days after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of US troops.

A Taliban spokesperson told AFP that no inauguration ceremony was planned until Saturday at the earliest, while previous announcements indicated that it could take place after Friday prayers.
