Monkey mafia steal your stuff, then sell it back for a cracker

Long-tailed macaques living near an Indonesian temple have figured out how to run a ransom racket on visiting tourists.

The monkeys grab valuables, such as glasses, hats, cameras or, in one case, a wad of cash from the ticket booth, then wait for temple staff to offer them food before dropping their ill-gotten gains and dashing off with the tasty prize (see video below).

The Athens Concert Hall welcomes primatologist, anthropologist and UN Messenger of Peace Dr Jane Goodall on Thursday, December 15. Presenting the event is Dr Moisis Mylonas, University of Crete professor and director of Crete's Natural History Museum. The lecture is organized is collaboration with Patakis Publications, the Jane Goodall Institute and the British Council in Athens.
