PM proposes head of Greece's top administrative court for next president

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that he is proposing the head of the Council of State, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, as a nominee for the country's next president, in a televised address on the state-run broadcaster ERT on Wednesday evening.

If her candidacy is approved by Parliament, she will replace incumbent Prokopis Pavlopoulos, whose term expires in March. 

A grave mistake

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has made a grave mistake. He shunned the unanimous opinion of the country's constitutional experts. He defied the recommendation of senior officials.

Tsipras, Merkel meet in Athens

German Chancellor Angela Merkel held talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens Thursday. Merkel and Tsipras have met in person many times over the course of the past few years, but this is the first time the German chancellor visits Athens during Tsipras's government. 

Former French president hails Greece's progress

Francois Hollande, the former president of France, on Friday hailed Greece's progress in overcoming difficult obstacles.

"You managed to ensure that Greece achieved good results," Hollande said during a visit to Maximos Mansion in Athens.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, for his part, welcomed Hollande as "a true friend of Greece."
