Janša named CEE person of the year at Karpacz Economic Forum
Karpacz – Prime Minister Janez Janša has received the award for person of the year in Central and Eastern Europe at the Economic Forum in Karpacz, Poland. In his speech, he underlined the region’s key role in the bloc and its Christian heritage.
Janša calls no-confidence motions tragicomic
Idrija – Prime Minister Janez Janša dismissed no-confidence motions sought by the centre-left opposition against two members of his government as being groundless on Wednesday, saying the attempts were rather tragicomic considering they were coming this late in the term.

International organisations urge end to STA crisis
Vienna – A number of international journalism and media freedom organisations have signed a joint statement urging the Slovenian government and the Government Communication Office (UKOM) “to immediately end the economic suffocation of the STA and take steps to ensure sustainable funding before its collapse”.

Pahor seeks to broker deal between STA and UKOM
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor will organise a meeting between the directors of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) and the Government Communication Office (UKOM) on Tuesday in a bid to find a solution to “issues that resulted in suspension of financing of the STA public service”.

Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša hosted EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell for working dinner on Saturday evening to discuss Afghanistan and the Western Balkans, Janša’s office said in a press release.

Ljubljana – Just over a quarter of respondents in the latest public opinion poll conducted by Mediana for commercial broadcaster POP TV support the work of the Janez Janša government, which is the lowest support in this term. The senior coalition Democrats (SDS) continue to top party rankings, followed by the opposition Social Democrats (SD).
