Slovenian firm goes all in on gelato

Slovenian gelato company Aroma Global is launching ice-cream production in Croatia's Ogulin in what it says will be the world's largest gelato factory using all-natural ingredients.

The company has invested €7.3 million in expansion over the past 15 months, opening 47 new ice-cream parlours in Croatia on top of existing three. They have none in Slovenia.

Custom-made, Robeta camper vans sold world over

Robeta, the Koroška-based company specialising in building stylish custom-made camper vans, has been seeing a surge in demand and sales worldwide since the Covid-19 pandemic changed the way people travel.

To cope with the rising demand, Robeta expanded at its location in Otiški Vrh last year to triple its production capacities to 900 vehicles per year.

Primož Roglič takes the lead in La Vuelta

San Sebastian – Slovenian cycling star Primož Roglič has taken the lead in La Vuelta after winning the 152-kilometre stage four on Tuesday on the last climb.

Having led the peloton in the last twenty kilometres, the Jumbo Visma rider secured the win with a dash up the Laguardia that left his closest competitors in the dust.

Roglič confirmed for La Vuelta

Ljubljana – Slovenian cycling star Primož Roglič will compete at La Vuelta, his team Jumbo Visma confirmed on Monday after the news was first broken by the Dutch news portal WielerFlits.

The three-time La Vuelta winner had sustained serious injuries in a crash at the Tour de France and it was uncertain whether he will be ready for the Spanish race.

Pahor notes importance of Trubar and Slovenian language in Italy

Gorizia – President Borut Pahor addressed a ceremony ahead of Primož Trubar Day in Italy’s Savogna on Tuesday, noting the importance of the Slovenian language for the Slovenian nation, saying that the “Slovenian language was and will be the foundation of our identity.”

Musicologist Primož Kuret dies

Ljubljana – Musicologist Primož Kuret, a professor emeritus at the Academy of Music, has died aged 86, says a posting on the academy’s website. He was one of the most prominent Slovenian intellectuals whose research and expertise have significantly contributed to the reputation of the Slovenian Music Academy at home and abroad.

Lampič, Roglič and handball team declared best in sports in 2020

Ljubljana – Cross-country skier Anamarija Lampič, cyclist Primož Roglič and the men’s handball team are this year’s crème de la crème of Slovenian sports as selected by the Association of Sports Journalists. Both the athletes and the team received the top sports awards at the 2020 Athlete of the Year ceremony on Wednesday.
