School bullying and, more broadly, adolescent violence are social problems that cannot be solved by administrative decisions alone. 

However, the state's mobilization is necessary to begin to systematically record and methodically deal with the problem. The measures announced by the government are a good start.

Social services in Greece already have a lot of ground to cover in order to converge with the European average.

They now have to face the additional challenge of adapting to the new demographics and social reality.

The state will soon be faced with an explosive problem if it does not organize social protection for the elderly.

What alternatives are being considered

Not only has the pandemic led children to lose their motivation to study, but that has also been compounded by a new phenomenon of students refusing to return to  in-person learning at school. Other than that, the pandemic has not led to a larger than usual number of mental complaints among children and youths.

From the get-go the incoming government is confronted with a series of major problems that must be tackled immediately.

It is indicative that after the government was sworn in, the first two conferences dealt with the faltering Public Power Corporation (PPC) and the huge issue of non-performing loans (NPLs).

In 2019, the municipality will launch a pilot programme to provide partial financial support for social innovation, with a budget of BGN 100,000, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said at the opening of a conference on social innovation, quoted by Focus News Agency.

Individuals and organisations will have three months to submit project proposals.

Macedonian capital Mayor Petre Shilegov is convinced that authorities in the Republic of Macedonia and Greece want to resolve the dispute over the name of the country.

"It is much better to solve the problems than to ignore them, I personally, but also Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, want to solve rather than create problems," Shilegov told the Greek Documentem agency.

The government is obviously not interested in solving problems, only in appearing to do so and scoring points against the opposition.

BELGRADE - Serbia is ready to invest great efforts towards solving the issue of missing persons, but it also expects countries in the region that face the same problem to show more will for cooperation, PM Ana Brnabic said at a meeting with Yves Daccord, director-general of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
