President Klaus Iohannis demanded on Monday night the resignation of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Chief Prosecutor Felix Banila.
The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have agreed to appoint Ms Laura Codruța Kövesi as the first European Chief Prosecutor.
The Office's seat will be located in Luxembourg, and Kövesi will sit for a non-renewable term of seven years.
Commissioner Vera Jourova congratulated Kövesi in a tweet:
North Macedonia's government said on Tuesday that it has decided to form an "operational" anti-graft team headed by Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and including other top officials.
The team will "work uncompromisingly and through a coordinated approach in the fight against crime and corruption", the government said in a statement.
