An Egyptian appeals court has overturned a death sentence handed down against ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in one of four trials since his 2013 overthrow, a judicial official said, according to AFP.

Egyptian police raid press syndicate, arrest two journalists
Egyptian police on May 1 raided the press syndicate in Cairo and arrested two journalists critical of the government, a syndicate official and reporters said in what the syndicate called an unprecedented crackdown.
Egypt police disperse protest against Saudi island deal
Egyptian police fired tear gas at dozens of protesters in Cairo on April 15 who rallied against a controversial deal to hand two islands in the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia, a security official said.
A police official said officers fired tear gas and made arrests at one of the protests in the Cairo neighborhood of Mohandessin.

Toddler sentenced to life in Egypt for killing three people
A 3-year-old Egyptian boy has been sentenced to life in prison for a crime he allegedly committed when he was 16 months old, CNN International reported on Feb. 23.
In what appears to be a bizarre case of mistaken identity, a military court Feb. 16 found Ahmed Mansour Qorany Sharara - and 115 others - guilty of killing three people and sabotaging public and private property.
Triumph and tragedy
Exactly five years after Egypt's democratic revolution triumphed, the country is once more ruled by a military office. General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi seized power in July 2013 and is even nastier than his predecessors.
More than 600 Egyptians were sentenced to death last year, mostly in mass trials, and most of the cases involved people who had gone to pro-democracy protests.
