Boy hospitalized after fire in home without electricity
A 4-year-old boy was being treated in an Athens hospital for respiratory problems on Thursday following a fire at his home in Larissa, central Greece, on Wednesday.
According to the local fire department, the fire was started by a candle that had been lit as the electricity to the apartment had been cut off due to the family's inability to pay the power bill.
Shipping minister heralds port hirings

Corfu rattled by 4.1 Richter temblor
A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale hit the Ionian island of Corfu late Saturday, the Geodynamic Institute in Athens reported.
According to the institute, the tremor occurred 33 kilometers off the island's north coast at a depth of 10 kilometers.
There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Firefighters partially contain Syros blaze
A brush fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon on the island of Syros has been partially contained before spreading to residential areas, authorities said.
Authorities said two fire engines and two water tank trucks were still operating in the area of Agia Marina, on the island's south.

Emergency Declared on Greece's Thassos Island over Wildfire
A state of emergency has been declared on the island of Thassos in Greece over a wildfire raging since Saturday, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.
Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the flames since Saturday. No-one has been hurt.
Helicopters have also joined the effort to put out the flames, Focus News Agency says citing Greek website Protothema.

At least four people died and another went missing as heavy rainfall late Tuesday and early Wednesday flooded streets and homes in the Messinia region in the southern Peloponnese and areas east of Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

Three dead, one missing due to floods in southwest Peloponnese
Three people have died and one is left missing in Messinia, in the southwest Peloponnese, due to some of the region's worst flooding in years, officials said Wednesday.
Bad weather hits Greece

The last 2 days were very difficult for residents in western Greece, since their homes were put in danger by the floods.
In Igoumenitsa, a 36 year old mother of two almost fell in a stream when her car was drifted by a flow, while roads in the region are turned into rivers.
