Group wedding ceremony and other events on Lesbos on Valentine’s Day

A two-day festival titled “Saint Valentine of Mytilene 2016″ is to take place on Lesbos during Valentine’s Day. Apart from being one of the most romantic waterfront settings of Greece, Lesbos feels a particular bond with Saint Valentine as the holy relics of the saint have been at the island since 1907.

Ionian islands to welcome seaplanes

The Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Ministry and the Shipping and Island Policy Ministry in cooperation with the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) are planning to grant immediately licences for the construction of waterways on the islands of Paxoi, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada as well as in Patras aiming to create the first network of waterways in Greece.

Mother and stepfather accused of Kostas Polyzos’ murder

The mother and stepfather of Kostas Polyzos, aged 23, murdered five years ago at Siatista Kozani appeared before the prosecutor at Aspropyrgos shortly after noon on Friday. With frozen gazes they passed through the door of the prosecutor and failed to answer questions posed to them by Proto Thema.

Photo exhibition for refugees in Mytilene

Photographic Society of Mytilene organises a group photo exhibition with the tile “Refugees” at the society’s exhibition venue, at the Lower Fortress of Mytilene from January 25 to February 5.

The photos of the members of Mytilene Photographic Society will be sold at the symbolic price of 20 euros each and the money will be offered for the supply of basic essentials for the refugees.

New terminal at Sitia airport to be inaugurated

The new terminal of Sitia airport “Vitsentzos Kornaros” on Crete will be inaugurated on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Infrastructures, Transport and Networks Minister Christos Spirtzis will be present at the inauguration ceremony which is scheduled to take place at 12:00. Representatives of the Lasithi region will also attend the ceremony.

Vicious crime on Andros, elderly man strangled and burnt

A man, aged 89 years, was found strangled on the island of Andros, the northernmost island of the Greek Cyclades archipelago. The assailants had killed the man before trying to burn his body. Residents of the Gavrio village of Andros, where the crime took place, are in a state of shock as relatives and friends of the deceased are being called to testify.

Kissing protest in response to Ambrosios homophobic statements outside Athens Cathedral

The Greek homosexual community are responding to the negative blog post against them by Greek Orthodox Bishop Ambrosios Kalavryta and Aigialeia with a kissing protest outside Athens cathedral (Mitropoli). The high-level church representative had called on people to “spit” and “blacken” gays and atheists with violence, stating that they are “freaks of nature”, “scum” and “faulty”.

Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Ambrosios of Kalavryta and Aigialeia – eighth in order of hierarchy and influence in the Church’s synod – has caused anger after a public blog post that lashed out at the homosexual community and atheists. He encouraged readers of the post to “spit” and “blacken” gays and atheists with violence, stating they are not human.

French love Greek singer Angelique Ionatos

The renowned Greek poet and singer left Greece at the age of 13 during Greek military junta of 1967 and relocated in Belgium, while from 1981 she has been staying in Paris.

Angelique Ionatos performs in Paris, Spain, Italy, Germany, Canada, while she rarely visits Greece. In 2009 had a concert in Mytilene, Samos and Athens.
