Lil Pump to headline Offline festival
Ptuj – Thousands of electronica fans are expected to flock to Ptuj for a two-day Offline festival of electronica and hip hip, which will be headlined by US rapper star Lil Pump and will feature more than 30 DJs on the outskirts of Slovenia’s oldest city on Friday and Saturday.

Perutnina Ptuj posts record sales of EUR 294m last year
Ptuj – The poultry group Perutnina Ptuj posted EUR 294 million in sales revenue in 2020, a new record and 3% increase on the year before. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were up 7% to EUR 47.7 million, the company has reported.
Festival of poetry and wine celebrating 25th anniversary
Ptuj – The city of Ptuj will host the 25th Days of Poetry and Wine from 24 to 28 August. Czech and Portuguese poets Petr Borkovec and Ana Luisa Amaral will be the guests of honour and the Open Letter to Europe will be written and read by German poet Durs Grünbein.
Decision in European Capital of Culture race expected soon
Ljubljana – All four Slovenian cities bidding to share the tittle of the 2025 European Capital of Culture with Germany’s Chemnitz have submitted their final presentations to the Culture Ministry. A jury is expected pick the winner among Ljubljana, Nova Gorica, Ptuj and Piran on 18 December.
Kurent carnival costume expected to become part of UNESCO heritage
The nomination, put forward by Slovenia in 2016, has been backed with praise by an UNESCO expert body, which has proposed to the organisation's intergovernmental committee that the kurent become part of the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
The kurent is a traditional carnival costume originating from the area around Ptuj in north-eastern Slovenia.
Festivities galore in Shrovetide period
In Ptuj, Kurentovanje, the traditional Shrovetide festival dedicated to the kurenti - the age-old sheepskin costumes with cowbells, will get under way with an ethnographic procession.
Traditional masks from across the country as well as UNESCO-protected traditional figures from Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary and even Venezuela are scheduled to make appearances in the promenade.
