The death toll in traffic accidents across Turkey has increased as hundreds of thousands of people hit the roads for the long Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha or the “Feast of Sacrifice.” Click through for the story in photos...

Muslims worldwide, including those in Turkey, are celebrating Islam's holy Eid al-Adha or "Feast of Sacrifice" with millions of Muslims around the world making a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia this week. 

As many as 47,000 more Syrians have left Turkey to celebrate Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha with their relatives in Syria.

Some 67 people lost their lives and 341 were injured in road accidents across Turkey this year during Eid al-Fitr, or Ramadan holiday, Doğan News Agency has reported.

People across Turkey celebrated the first day of the three-day-long Eid al-Fitr on June 15, with many hosting friends and families at their homes and others preferring to travel to Turkish resort towns to enjoy the beach on the official holiday. 

A total of 122 people were killed in road accidents across Turkey during the extended 10-day long public holiday, the Interior Ministry said on Sept. 5.

The death toll in traffic accidents across Turkey rose to 86 on the 8th day of the extended 10-day long Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday.

Some 384 people were injured in road accidents during the same period. 

A total of 16 people were killed and 16 were injured on the 8th day of the public holiday alone in different accidents across Turkey.

Some 73 people lost their lives and 437 were injured in road accidents across Turkey in the first seven days of the 10-day long extended Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept.2.
