Constitutional Court stays implementation of act on army investments

Ljubljana – The Constitutional Court has stayed the implementation of an act on EUR 780 million in investments in the Slovenian Armed Forces pending a decision on the constitutionality of the legislation. The Defence Ministry labelled the decision as “disproportionate”.

Nearly 36,000 people violate curfews

Officials have taken action against a total of 35,544 people that violated weeknight curfews and weekend lockdowns in Turkey between Jan. 4 and Jan. 11, the country's Interior Ministry has said.

Curfews are in effect across 81 provinces from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. while the lockdown lasts from 9 p.m. on Fridays to 5 a.m. on Mondays.

Extra restrictions for small town in central Greece due to virus

Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announced Monday additional restrictions for the small town of Sperchiada in the region of Fthiotida, central Greece, after health authorities detected an increased number of coronavirus cases.

The measures will apply for 10 days, from January 5 to 6 a.m. on January 14.

Turkey ends 80-hour-long coronavirus curfew

Turkey ended a nationwide curfew early on Jan. 4 aimed at helping stem the spread of the novel coronavirus. 

The curfew ended at 05.00 a.m. (0200GMT) after 80 hours.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced in mid-December last year that a curfew would be in effect from Dec. 31 to Jan. 4 in an effort to keep the COVID-19 outbreak under control.

Turkey under holiday curfew

Turkey is under a nationwide curfew spanning the traditional New Year's holiday that has started on Dec. 31 until early Jan. 4 as part of measures to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The curfew has begun on Thursday at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. local time on Monday.

Covid-19: France Mobilises 100,000 police to Stop Gatherings on New Year's Eve

France is to mobilise 100,000 police and gendarmes on New Year's Eve to break up parties and enforce a curfew imposed to combat coronavirus.

The extra security also aims at halting the torching of cars that often takes place on the final night of the year.

France has confirmed 2.6m Covid-19 cases, the fifth highest total in the world, and more than 64,000 deaths.

Large-scale police presence planned to ensure compliance with health rules

More than 10,000 police officers will be deployed throughout the country for New Year's Eve in order to ensure compliance with the measures for preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The restrictions will be similar to those imposed for the Christmas holiday but police checks will be more intensive.
