Women arrested in Thessaloniki for leaving baby in parked car while shopping

Two women aged 22 and 27 were arrested in the Pylaia area on the outskirts of Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, for endangering the life of a minor on Thursday. The women had left a 4-month-old baby alone inside a parked car while they went shopping at a department store.

Police probe father's fatal shooting of son in Thessaloniki

Police in Thessaloniki on Monday were questioning a 63-year-old man accused of shooting dead his 32-year-old son with a hunting rifle in the municipality of Pylaia on Sunday. 

According to investigators, the man fired his weapon at the 32-year-old at around 2 p.m. on Sunday following an argument though the exact reasons for the fallout were unclear. 

City hall guard attacked by vandals

A probe was launched on Wednesday into an attack in the early hours of Wednesday against a guard who had been on duty outside the building housing the Municipal Authority of Pylaia-Hortiati in Thessaloniki.

The guard was assaulted by unidentified individuals who had been spraying slogans on the wall of the building.

Race continues for second place in Thessaloniki mayoral runoff

With just over 60 percent of votes counted on Monday morning, the conservative New Democracy-backed candidate for Thessaloniki mayor Nikos Tachiaos was projected to secure 22.56 percent while Constantinos Zervas and Giorgos Orphanos fought it out for second place with 14.76 percent and 14.41 percent respectively ahead of the runoff next weekend.
