Meteora Pyli Geopark joins UNESCO global Enetwork
The Meteora Pyli Geopark has joined the UNESCO Global Geoparks network, which now encompasses 213 such parks in 48 countries around the world.
UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.

History repeating itself
February 2016: Four platoons of riot police are dispatched to Kos from Athens. Dozens of residents on the eastern Aegean island block the road leading to the village of Pyli with rocks and fires, as they oppose the construction of a migrant identification and reception center in the area. They clash with police, who use tear gas to disperse the protesters.

New episodes break out on Kos Island due to hotspot construction
Great tension prevails on the island of Kos at the old military camp of Pyli where government has started construction works for the creation of a hotspot.
According to local media the residents have lit fires blocking the road and preventing anyone to pass through.
Clashes between residents and police on Kos island
Violent episodes broke out on Friday between riot police and the residents of the island of Kos at the old military camp of Pyli.
About 300 residents gathered outside the camp to protest against the plans of the Greek government to construct a hotspot in the area.
