Qatar diplomatic crisis

Representatives from Turkish and Qatari private sectors will hold talks to run the airport in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu said on Feb. 11 that Turkey and Qatar could contribute to easing tensions over a nuclear pact.

Turkey on Jan. 5 welcomed the outcome of the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit held in Saudi Arabia, which saw reconciliation between Gulf states.

Turkey welcomed recent positive developments on Dec. 4 to resolve the conflict in the Gulf region. 

"We appreciate the sincere efforts of the Kuwaiti leaders who have undertaken intensive contacts and initiatives for the resolution of this dispute," the foreign ministry said in a statement. 

Iran and Turkey signed a deal on Nov. 26 with Qatar aimed at boosting commercial ties with the Gulf state which is under blockade by its Arab neighbors, Iranian state television said.

Arab foreign ministers gathered in Cairo on Nov. 19 at Saudi Arabia's request for an extraordinary meeting to discuss alleged "violations" committed by Iran in the region.

Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart and former chief strategist of the Trump administration, has said Turkey is the biggest danger for the US, Asharq Al-Avsat reported. “Turkey is the biggest danger for us [the US]! … No, not even close to [its neighbor] Iran…” said Bannon.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Sept. 14 discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will hold talks in Ankara on Sept. 14 with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an ally of Doha in its dispute with Gulf Arab neighbors.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain cut diplomatic and trade links with Qatar three months ago, suspending air and shipping routes with the world's biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas.

Two of the world's largest energy producers, Qatar and Russia, on Aug. 30 vowed to increase trade ties at a time when the emirate is facing an economic boycott from neighboring states.
