Ljubljana – The Constitutional Court has annulled in an unanimous decision the implementation of a provision from one of the legislative packages for mitigating the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic that extends accreditations to higher education institutions.

The provision was stayed in late January, and the country’s top court announced the final ruling on Tuesday.

This was announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.

Albania is to pay a British agency, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, QAA, around 700,000 euros to rank the quality of its 35 public and private universities.

BRUSSELS - There are no common mechanisms to control the quality of academic titles in the EU, as the matter is left to individual universities and member states, the European Commission (EC) says.

There is no central commission, but only EC recommendations within the Bologna process, EC Directorate General for Education and Culture spokesperson Dennis Abbott told Tanjug.

A pilot scheme to provide independent accreditation of courses at Greek universities and technical colleges is under way, with the aim being for the program to be gradually extended to all 436 departments at tertiary institutions from September onward.
