Freedom Convoy: Resignation in Ottawa, Canada eases COVID measures

The chief of police in the Canadian capital Ottawa resigned 19 days after the start of the occupation of the center by the Freedom Convoy - the protest of truck drivers against the mandatory vaccination.

The resignation came after serious criticism over a prolonged blockade that halted traffic and hampered trade with the United States.

Canada's Governor General Julie Payette called for cooperation with Greece on environment, human rights and electronic governance during a phone call with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Wednesday.

The two officials also discussed the need for solidarity and a common approach to tackle the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, her office said.

Cirque du Soleil founder wants to buy back show

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte announced on May 24 he intends to try to buy back the world's most famous circus troupe, which is struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.    

Laliberte, a former stilt-walker-turned-millionaire who co-founded the troupe in 1984, sold his last remaining stake in Cirque in February.

One dead, five missing in crash of Canadian chopper off Greece

One person is dead and five are missing after a military helicopter operating off a Canadian frigate during a NATO exercise crashed into the sea between Greece and Italy, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday.

Trudeau said one body had been found, and the five others aboard the aircraft were missing.

"We hold out hope to find the missing," Trudeau said.
