Racism in South Africa

The turning point in the history of both Türkiye and South Africa was due to the revolutions driven by young people.

Türkiye's founding father, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was part of the revolutionary movement of intellectuals, Young Turks, which inspired the founding values of the Turkish Republic.

Xenophobic violence is a common phenomenon in predominantly poor, black areas of post-apartheid South Africa, where jobs are scarce and locals blame entrepreneurial foreign communities - their numbers swelled via the country's porous and corrupt borders - for the prevalence of drugs, crime and unemployment.

Turkey's foreign minister on Sept. 10 slammed Israel's prime minister over his "illegal, unlawful and aggressive" messages in election pledges, saying they are part of "a racist apartheid state". 

More than 1,000 refugees housed at the Ellinikon hotspot, in the area of Vouliagmeni, went on a hunger strike, Monday, protesting against the atrocious living conditions at the centre.
