Belgium did not ‘delay’ in MEP’s case, lawyer says

The lawyer representing a woman who has accused SYRIZA MEP Alexis Georgoulis of rape pushed back on Wednesday against claims that Belgian justice authorities had been slow off the mark in their response to the case.

The original complaint by Eleni Chronopoulou was submitted in 2020, accusing Georgoulis of rape and causing bodily harm.

Man, 49, arrested for attempted rape

Police officers in Messinia in the Peloponnese have arrested a 49-year-old man for attempting to rape a 92-year-old woman. 

According to reports, the woman reported Saturday that while she was in the yard of her house, the suspect entered the area, held down her arms, and attempted to commit a sexual act.

Thessaloniki police arrest man on suspicion of attempted rape

Police in Thessaloniki have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of the attempted rape of a 19-year-old woman, who is being treated in a hospital in the city.

On Friday evening, the woman told police that in the early hours of the same day, she was approached by the suspect in the Toumba area, who attempted to rape her and stole her backpack.
