Power Cut Leaves Hundreds Stranded in Sweltering Paris Metro Trains

Hundreds of commuters and tourists in Paris were left stuck in sweltering Metro trains in tunnels for up to two hours on Tuesday night before being evacuated.

Hundreds of commuters and holidaymakers were evacuated from one of Paris' busiest metro lines on Tuesday evening after a power failure halted the driverless trains.

So far, there were only two metro stations that were used by the city rail - the trams.

Athens traffic snarled as subway workers hold 24-hour strike

Workers on the Greek capital's subway system have walked off the job in a 24-hour strike that has snarled traffic across Athens.

The metro workers' union called the strike to protest what they say is underfunding of the public transport system, and the possibility that the Athens Metro would be included in privatization plans.

Athens metro station closed after suicide

The operator of the Athens metro has said that it shut down the station at Panepistimio in the city center following a suicide.

Initial reports said a man threw himself onto the tracks in front of an incoming train.

Line 2 of the metro will run from Anthoupoli to Metaxourgio and from Syntagma to Elliniko until the station is reopened.

Transport staff urge summer schedule change

The long intervals between metro and electric railway trains in Athens appears to be irking public transport staff as well as visitors to the Greek capital.

Since the beginning of July, the frequency of trains, as well as trams and buses, has been reduced due to the implementation of the summer timetable.
Schedules will return to normal at the beginning of September.

Doukissis Plakentias metro station to be closed on Wednesday night

The Doukissis Plakentias metro station in northern Athens, the last stop on Line 3, will close at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night and not reopen until the following day.

The station is being closed to allow the installation of new barriers operating with electronic tickets, a system that is supposed to go into effect across the capital's public transportation network in the summer.
