Greek fisherman Vagellis Lagonas from Sidirounda, Chios broke the world record for catching the heaviest common dentex. The amateur fisherman caught the larger 11kg fish on July 26 at a depth of 35 metres and his feat was subsequently verified by the International Underwater Spearfishing Association. “It was a great dive from 22 to 35 meters.

Professional diver, aged 47, drowns off Chios

Authorities on the eastern Aegean island of Chios have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old professional diver who drowned during an underwater cleanup on Friday.

According to local media, the 47-year-old had been diving with another man who noticed his partner's absence after returning to the surface.

Turkey takes underwater hockey crown for 2nd time

Turkish U23 men's team emerged victorious on July 21, 4th World Age Group Underwater Hockey Championships held in Hobart, Australia. 

Turkey beat France by a score of 3-1 in the championship final. The under-23-years-of-age team finished the group stage in first place, beat Argentina in the quarter-finals 12-0, and beat Colombia 2-0 in the semi-finals.

A 54-year-old spearfisher was killed by a speedboat Wednesday off the coast of Kallithea in Halkidiki, northern Greece. According to port authorities, the man was brought to surface bleeding heavily and taken to shore by the speedboat driver before an ambulance rushed him to a nearby health center where he was pronounced dead.

Beekeeping in Slovenia is an indicator of concern for the environment and nature, according to State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fotestry and Food Tanja Strniša.

The sector is very progressive and proactive. There are currently some 10,000 beekeepers in Slovenia, who have a total of 176,000 bee colonies, comprised of 20,000-80,000 female worker bees.
