The European Union is not paying money to the Turkish government, it is supporting the refugees in the country, a top EU official said on Nov. 9.

Nearly 470,000 Syrian have returned to their countries and more of them will go back when the conditions become ripe for their return, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said.

A Greek journalist has revealed the sad plight of refugees who set foot on the island of Lesbos, from getting treated inhumanely to being beaten, mugged and pushed back to Turkish borders.

There are a total of 1.18 million foreigners in Istanbul, including 535,000 Syrians under temporary protection, Governor Ali Yerlikaya has said.

At least 11 Syrians will be deported for "provocatively" sharing their videos while eating bananas on social media after a Turkish citizen complained that he cannot afford bananas while the refugees can.

While Greece turns to increased surveillance and more border patrols on its land and sea borders with Turkey to meet an anticipated new wave of refugees from Afghanistan, following the withdrawal of US troops and that country's fall to the Taliban, human rights experts have criticized well documented reports of violent pushbacks.

The international community's efforts are needed to solve the migration problem, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sept. 12.

"If this [migration] is a global problem, we must work together as the international community to solve it," Çavuşoğlu told journalists in the southern Turkish resort city of Antalya.

Turkey's policy of providing access to education, health, and social opportunities to refugees is "very positive," the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) chief said in southeastern Turkey on Sept. 10.

We are all witnessing the dramatic events affecting Afghanistan and the tragic uncertainty that so many Afghan citizens feel for the future of their country, which currently counts 3 million displaced persons, 550,000 of whom were displaced in 2021.

Yet help is just 500 metres away: on the Polish side, a group of activists has been on standby for days, bringing bags with food, water, medicines and thermal blankets (nights are now cold and it had been raining). But a line of Polish border guards constantly blocks access.
