Major problems across Greece due to severe weather (videos-photos)
The severe weather front that swept across Greece continues to cause many problems with floods and power failures being reported throughout the country. Due to heavy rainfall and strong winds authorities temporarily shut down the Eleftherios Venizelos Athens International Airport.
Weather to worsen with snow forecast for much of country
Following days of heavy rain in Attica and elsewhere, snowfall is expected in several parts of the country from Monday night, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY).
Snow is forecast for mountainous parts in the country's north and western Macedonia, EMY said.
The temperature in those areas is expected to drop by between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.
Freezing temperatures and snow to hit Greece
The Greek Meteorological Services (EMY) issued a new severe weather bulletin Monday warning of snow falls and low temperatures until Thursday. The report forecasts heavy rainfalls and storms for the Ionian region, Epirus, mainland Greece (including Attica), Euboea, the Peloponnese, the Sporades and Cyclades islands and the Dodecanese.

4.0 magnitude earthquake rocks Kilkis
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake hit the province of Kilkis, in central Macedonia, Wednesday morning. According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the tremor struck at approximately 11am, following less intense earthquake at 9.38am. Its epicentre was located at 13km west and northwest of Kilkis at a depth of 5klm.

Overcrowded islands on the brink of uncontrollable strife
The islands of the eastern Aegean with populations of refugees and migrants who have arrived since March are at risk of increased conflict, according to local observers who are warning that the situation on Greece's overcrowded islands is "dangerous and could get out of control at any moment."

Rallies scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday by the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party on the the eastern Aegean islands of Chios and Lesvos have placed local authorities on alert, fearing outbreaks of violence as counter-demonstrations are also expected to take place.
